Detailed description

One of the most common Swiss watch movements, the ETA 2824-2 is the third refinement of the original ETA 2824. Like most ETA movements, Cal. 2824-2 is available in Standard, Elaborate, Top, and Chronometer versions. The similar ETA 2836-2 adds a day wheel. Cal. 2824-2 replaced Cal. 2824-1 in 1982 and remained in production through 2021. After this, only proprietary versions for Swatch Group companies remained in production.

Cal. 2824-2 is frequently re-branded by other companies. Examples include Ball 2050, Frederique Constant FC-303, Glycine GL 224, Jean Marcel JM A05, Nord N3, TAG Heuer Calibre 5, and U-Boat U-28.

Since the patents for the design are expired, there are a number of clone movements. Common ETA 2824-2 clones include the following:

11 ½ ”’
Diameter 25,60 mm
Height 4,60 mm

Hours, minutes, central second
Date display in window, semi-instantaneous

Quick correction of date
Time setting with stop-second
Self-winding mechanism, bidirectional

Frequency: 28’800 vibrations per hour; 4 Hz
25 jewels
Regulator system ETACHRON
Typical power reserve: 42 hour
